Sound To Narrows Event

It's time again for the annual "Sound To Narrows" event, or what we think of as the "Heart Disease Recovery and Prevention" event. We view this as an annual opportunity to reunite our patients while getting a work-out and we invite ALL of you to participate in some way! Yes, this means YOU! Even if you haven't been exercising regularly, this is a great opportunity to start! The Sound to Narrows is a yearly event in June, originating at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma.

The "Sound To Narrows" is one of the largest walk/run events in the nation and we want you to consider it an important part of your ongoing rehabilitation program. Many members of our staff will be participating, and we'd like you to join us! You may choose to walk OR run either the 12k (7.46 mile) or 5k (3.1 mile) course. The distance and time are not important, but being there to reaffirm your commitment to healthy living is crucial!

More "Sound to Narrows" information will be available in the Morning News Tribune and on the Sound to Narrows Web site, www.soundtonarrows.com as the event draws near, but please feel free to call our office if you have any other questions. We'll look forward to seeing you on "race day" for some "Serious Rehab"!

Sincerely,
The Cardiac Surgery Staff and Physicians

Cardiac Rehabilitation Program

If you currently have, or in the past have had, stable angina, coronary artery bypass surgery, or a heart attack, the Franciscan Heart Center Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is designed to help you work toward and maintain a healthy life.

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is overseen by specially trained cardiac rehabilitation nurses and a cardiologist, who will monitor you electronically as you work on reducing your cardiac risk factors. The program is also covered by most insurance plans (Medicare and supplemental insurance) up to 80% of the total cost.

If you have cardiovascular disease, ask your doctor about your current exercise regimen, or give us a call at (253) 591-6768.

Freedom from Tobacco Network

Whether you've been a long-time smoker, or one who has just started, The Freedom from Tobacco Network is for anyone who wants to stop using tobacco forever.

Learn how to stop smoking or chewing tobacco in a supportive, group environment with those who understand the strategies and challenges first-hand. Each meeting you'll have the opportunity to speak about your own journey, and medical support from Patrick J. Hogan, DO, will provide professional guidance on the effects of tobacco, and strategies for breaking nicotine addiction. This combination of group support and professional guidance has resulted in a high rate of success.

There is no fee to join; the group continues with the contributions of its members. Whether you're in that difficult first month or not smoked for for years but want the support of an understanding group, we invite you to come.
