Kari Vitikainen, M.D.
Dr. Vitikainen is a cardiac and thoracic surgeon who has been in practice in Tacoma, Washington, since 1976. He has performed over 5,000 open heart operations.
He was born in Finland, immigrated to the United States at age 15, and was naturalized in 1960. He graduated from Yale University and received his medical degree from the State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. Dr. Vitikainen did his post-graduate training in general surgery and thoracic/cardiovascular surgery at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps as a Lieutenant Colonel from 1974 to 1976.
